Quality assisted living in Costa Rica at reasonable prices

Quality assisted living in Costa Rica at reasonable prices Florida became famous for its retirement communities and Costa Rica will be the next. The first retirement community in Costa Rica is Verdeza is under construction and located in Escazu.

This beautiful community will be fully operational on the 11th of November 2013 and the new residents will be able to move that day. I have done several hard hat tours with clients of mine in recent weeks and I took some pictures, so you can see for yourself how well they are moving ahead on the construction. I am pretty sure they will make their opening’s date as planned.

Verdeza is a fully bilingual continuing care facility also offering independent living and gives you now the option to retire in a tropical environment with the amenities of a modern city.

I was Two Feet from a Toucan in Atenas

by guest blogger Carole Connolly-Shaw

Roca verde real estate in Atenas, Costa RicaCarole and her husband Don are baby boomers and retired in Atenas, Roca Verde to be exact.

I want to share with you Carole’s blog because I know most of you will enjoy her short stories. They tell what living in Costa Rica is all about. Carole’s stories are fun to read.

I am not a birder. When I think of “birders”, the image of that lady on the Bob Cummings Show comes to mind. She wore a funny hat, actually I think it was a pith helmet, and maybe had a whistle around her neck.

She was kind of geeky, which today is considered cool. Yeah, that’s it: geeky is the new cool.

Costa Rica home on the Cariari golf course for sale

by Shell Johanson

Cariari luxury home for saleI would like to tell you all about this incredibly beautiful older home I just listed right on the Cariari golf course. This 6,600 square feet Spanish colonial was one of the first homes built in Cariari and has been continiously updated.

This almost 1/2 an acre property overlooks the length of the 8th fairway and its green and also the tee-off at the ninth hole of the Cariari Golf and Country Club. Very few Cariari homes for sale offer this kind of luxury setting.

The home is one of the finest golf properties availables in Costa Rica and offers five bedrooms and 4 bedrooms on the 2nd floor, all spaciously set up for the luxury lifestyle you are looking for, plus a second floor patio with a gorgeous veranda overlooking the golf course.

Active Adult and retirement communities in Costa Rica

Active Adult and Retirement Communities in Costa RicaQuite often I get emails from clients in the US and Canada who are looking to retire in another country and have read about retirement in Costa Rica. Some ask how many golf courses we have in the community and others how many homes there are in the community.

Some ask if you have any views from the homes in the community and what the community amenities are.

For so many years Costa Rica has been in the news as one of the best retirement destinations in the world that some people have started to believe that Costa Rica is one of the best retirement communities in the world.

Is Costa Rica a retirement community?

Well, let me first set some things straight here. Costa Rica is NOT a retirement community; it is a country in Central America, located between Panama and Nicaragua. Costa Rica is NOT an island and if you thought it was, you’re mixed up with Puerto Rico.

The capital city is San Jose, not to be mistaken with San Jose in California and San Juan in Puerto Rico, in case you hop on the wrong flight.

IRA Limitations when you buy Costa Rica real estate

by Ivo Henfling

IRA Limitations when you buy Costa Rica real estateMany North Americans don’t know you can buy real estate in Costa Rica with your self directed IRA (Individual Retirement Account) or your 401(k) (Retirement Savings Account).

Very few Costa Rica real estate agents know how you can realize the purchase without running into trouble.

You will need the cooperation of your IRA custodian and you need to have a Costa Rica real estate attorney who knows what needs to be done and of course a GoDutch Realty agent for your purchase.

An oh so different gated community in Atenas | Roca Verde homes in Atenas

Roca Verde gated community om Atenas - Oh so differentI have lived in Atenas for almost 8 years now, own property in Atenas and I still enjoy it. Over ten years ago, two French Canadian pioneers in Costa Rica, started to develop Vista Atenas and build some ranch houses there (one story), they tell me that this was kind of the middle of nowhere back then.

That's when property in Atenas started to be as desirable as it is today.

This is where Howard my husband, my son Taylor and myself bought our first property in Atenas and did our first spec home which was what connected us to Ivo and GoDutch Realty. I went through training and since then I have been the GoDutch realty's representative for the area of Atenas have the best real estate available in Atenas for sale.

After finishing most of Vista Atenas out envisioned a much larger and better gated community one of the Vista Atenas partners, Jean Luc Sauvé, his is wife and a partner bought a property in Atenas to develop what is now known as Roca Verde gated community in Atenas. It took them some time to get all the permitting in place but their timing was right as when he was ready to start selling home sites in Roca Verde and his roads, water and power were in but the time the boom started.

Exercising in Atenas

by Isabelle Jones, your Atenas real estate specialist

One of the many things my family and I love about living in Atenas is the weather in Atenas and natural beauty which is so conducive to year-round outdoor exercise.

Every day from early morning until evening, you see both locals and foreigners of all ages walking, jogging and bicycling.

It is part of our daily routine here which we so enjoy. In Colorado, we were also active but more limited due to weather conditions.

Recently, besides our outside activities, my son and I decided to join one of the local gyms.  There are three in Atenas.  This one was our choice since it offers a smaller environment with personalized service.
