Los Suenos Resort and Jaco Beach are great options to have a good time
by Rudy Matthews
This past Thanksgiving I went to Jaco Beach with my son, sister and niece. My sister and niece were visiting from Florida and their two favorite places here in Costa Rica are the hot springs and spending time at the beach. Playas de Jaco is located on the Central Pacific Coast, between Puntarenas and Manuel Antonio.
Jaco is the closest beach to the Central Valley area. The new highway from San José to Caldera makes Jaco a favorite for tourist and locals.
Jaco beach and the nearby Hermosa Beach are known for surfing and Costa Rica just won its 6th consecutive title at the 2011 REEF Central American Surfing Games. My surfing days are behind me but I still enjoy body surfing and the waves are great in Jaco.
There are many shops and restaurants in Jaco. The shops are geared toward the tourist trade and line the streets on both sides. There are plenty of restaurants. I like “Big Ron’s” Jersey Subs for sandwiches and pizza slices around lunch time. Lemon Zest restaurant I visit in the evening. Lemon Zest is owned and operated by Richard – a true chef who prepares great international cuisine. The Thanksgiving Dinner at Lemon Zest was the best I have had.
There are plenty of Hotels and rental condos are a viable option. When traveling to Jaco there is a private resort called Punta Leona which is worth a visit. Very family oriented, they charge a fee to enter but the resort is very nice and the beach” Playa Blanca” is great.
Los Suenos Resort is close and the marina there rivals any Marina in the United States. There is a restaurant at the Marina with a great view – great for lunch and dinner (by now you all know – I do not cook). You can play great golf in Los Suenos Resort and there is some real nice property for sale in Los Suenos.
When you plan to pay Jaco a visit, make sure you stop to have a look at the crocodiles in the Tarcoles river, near the Carara National park and Nativa Resort.
Jaco was really a hot spot during the boom for property and development. That has slowed and many condo owners were caught in the down turn. Jaco is a surf town and you do have to be careful with items left in a car etc.
I feel Jaco is a good option for leisure and its close proximity to the Central Valley makes it very appealing.
